A Socket is a part that has other pieces fitted into it - usually located at the top. A Cone is a part that fits into other pieces (sockets) – usually found at the bottom. A Joint is like a cone but situated on a side arm or side fitting. Explanation of socket/cone/joint sizes, using examples: A socket, size 14/23: This means that the widest Internal Diameter (ID) of the socket - the top of the socket - is 14mm and the length of the socket (the actual ground glass part) is 23mm. A cone or joint, size 24/29: This means that the Outside Diameter (OD) of the widest point of the cone or joint (i.e. the top of the ground glass part) is 24mm & the length of the cone or joint (the actual ground glass part) is 29mm. A cone or joint, size 19/26 will fit into a socket size 19/26, and so on.
